Fairmont Empress, Victoria, B.C.
This very civilized hotel cannot escape from the wild
island on which it stands.
The Fairmont Empress, a landmark hotel in Victoria B.C., stands beside the city's inner harbor. It is a restored turn-of-the century hotel, complete with rose gardens and a special lobby where high tea is served every afternoon.
An interesting fact is that once a cougar wandered into the city and found itself trapped inside the hotel's parking garage, before it was subdued and removed. This story, complete with a photograph, used to hang in the lobby of the Fairmont Empress until too many guests became nervous and it was removed.
