Banani - My family (including a toddler) are also moving to Montreal from the US sometime this year. We have heard that many young-ish families live in the Mile End neighborhood. Mile End is next to Outremont. It is supposed to be pretty diverse. (We are also a biracial family, which values multiculturalism.) NDG is supposedly also very family-friendly, though you have to live on the east end of it to be near a Metro stop. I'm into walking, just a little nervous about the winters. =) Good luck to you.
