Attitudes to public drinking in Italy seem to be more lax in most other places I've been to. This is hardly shocking if you remember that we're talking about a wine-exporting Mediterranean country, but still, what you can matter-of-factly do here may very well surprise your typical New Yorker.

One example: during our last expedition to Rome (which neatly coincided with Ree's birthday), we got it into our heads to finish the evening with a glass of champagne next to the Trevi Fountain. Guess what?

Actually, here's an excerpt from the Guardian:

homeles people with a bottle of champagne and ,nothing but, drinking out of glasses in Rome at the Trevi fountain...hmmm!Gang members with a bottle of champagne and of course 4 glasses in Rome at the Trevi fountain....Crazy teengers ________________________________in Rome at the Trevi fountain...I hope we can see all of this scenarios ,that's what a better world would look like I think

the weird part is that alban and i are writing in the same room at the same time ! with independent ideas we still come up with the same thing....

The idea is that you change some elements and something that is acceptable for some members of society is completely unacceptable for others, but in the end the main elements remain, people drinking alcohol in a public space"...
