L'Express Way
Posted by Slavito in Montreal » Places To Eat on 09/Feb/2008

There are many restaurants in this town proving their worth by hiring the right chef, PR agency or interior designer, attracting the "in" crowd or serving the most "creative" (sometimes absurdly creative) nouvelle cuisine dishes.

And then there are restaurants that don't need to prove anything: as long as they stay true to their mission and character, they will be deservedly popular.

L'Express at 3927 rue St-Denis belongs to the second category. In the 20-odd years that the place existed, it slowly transformed its status from that of a "cool new thing" to that of a Montreal institution...

I can't but to agree with you .I really like L'Express (which I have to mention that it has nothing in common with the one in New York ).I like their wine list and the food is always good but most of all i love the fact that it stays open late which always reminds me of Paris .

P.S just had lunch at one of the places we were advised to go in Florence. It's called La Cipolla Rossa and it situated in an area that it seems to be frequented by the American Bohemian/college exported. We did have a good time but the food or at least my wild boar or as it was written on the menu 'wild board' it was very boring.

Thanks for agreeing with me!

Re: L'Express - NYC. Yes, as far as I know, no connection exists. I actually like the New York restaurant as well, no so much for food as for the 24-hour schedule. Again, a good option when you're done bar-hopping or whatever you were doing at 3 am... I think they start serving breakfast after 3 (I could be mistaken, though - it's been a while).

Re: Florence. May be what they really meant to put on the menu was "wild bore". Who recommended you the place?

I love this restaurant too and I would love to be able to afford eating there every day!
