Built between 1957 and 1962, the cruciform tower was one of the first skyscrapers in Montreal.
In 1955, the New York developer William Zeckendorf invited I.M.Pei to work on this project. The architect agreed and, working with Henry Cobb, designed what was to become one of the first skyscrapers in the city.
Several changes have been made to the lower floors of the structure over the years (much to the detriment of the building, some say) - for example, landscaping and grass were added in the mid-1980.
