Halloween In New York

Nice Places

Halloween Ban New York No one should pass up an opportunity to take an all expenses-paid trip to New York, and I am no exception. So, when such an opportunity finally presented itself, I didn't waste any time hesitating - instead, I packed my bags and, given the timing of such luck, my Halloween costume.

Halloween Skull To celebrate Halloween, every year New Yorkers organize a parade along Sixth Avenue from Spring Street to roughly 21st street. This year on the day of the parade the weather was perfect, bucking the trend of the few preceding cold days.

As one would expect from a city like New York, all types of costumes were on display, including the time-tested classics. Monsters, vampires, witches and papier-mâché skulls were all made to be quite believable.

But one couldn't help but get the impression that for some folks, Halloween amounted to nothing more than an excuse to vent their political (anti-Bush) anger, make a statement about their religious beliefs, sexual preferences, or both... as the two "pope" guys vividly demonstrate here.

Halloween in New York: Pacman, Gay Popes

Of course, there were other entertaining and creative costumes like this Pacman, or his Dutch-lady-wannabe friend. Or the numerous street bands and random performers playing instruments and generally charging up the atmosphere of the parade almost Rio-style.

As it has probably been said a million times before, the energy and the unbridled craziness of New York at Halloween will definitely make your trip worthwhile, whether or not you like the idea of participating yourself (which I recommend, provided that you have a decent costume).

The only remotely scary thing was a person who decided (not entirely without reason) that real butcher knives would go splendidly with his serial killer costume. So, this is how he was walking around the city before being detained, without incident, by the police in Times Square.
