La Cena at La Chronique

Whether you live in Montreal or visiting, La Chronique is a dinner option worth considering...

Given the restaurant's popularity, I think you'll have easier time making a reservation if you call during the week - the place is small and it fill up quickly.

Once you solved the getting in problem, your next question will be which menu to order from. You can, of course, order from the à la carte menu or go with the menu de degustation (this month's flavor, for example, is seafood).

My companion and I ordered à la carte, starting with appetizers (my date: Le velouté de homard à ma façon langoustine rôtie, girolles, purée de céleri boule et sa crème fraîche aux herbes; myself: Le foie gras de canard Chronique abricots pochés à la vanille, pain d'épices et chutney de tomates). Both were delicious: I love putting foie gras on bread, despite feeling quite guilty about the fate of the geese.

For the main course we ordered Le méli-mélo de canard Chronique crevettes grillées, caviar d'aubergines, poivrons marinés et portabella and Le duo de cochonnet et homard risotto aux asperges vertes, jus de viande truffé et sauce béarnaise (a combination of lobster and pork with asparagus risotto) and after these delicious meals, a selection of cheeses.

As much as I'd have loved to try their dessert, I just couldn't bring myself to eat anything else, so we ended our dinner there, at the cheese stage. Which was a shame because intriguingly, the dessert was a "suprise from the chef" which obviously won't be revealed unless you order it. Well, may be next time..

Certainly a good dining experience with excellent cuisine and good service. The bill may seem a bit steep at between $250 and $350 for a 2-person dinner (depending on your choices of food and wine), but if it's in your range, it's definitely worth it.
