On This Page: ↓Attractions ↓Restaurants Located west of Old Montreal, Cité Multimédia (Multimedia City) is so small it barely qualifies as a separate neighborhood. Yet its architecture, character and history are so drastically different from that of Old Montreal, it has become accepted as such. To put it simply, Cité Multimédia, a former colonial city suburb, is an office-industrial neighborhood that's slowly becoming a residential one. Several condo building arrived in the last five years and with the support of the new residents, the area is being transformed from a 9-5 noman's land into an active 24-hour community. Many technology and design companies have made Cité Multimédia their home and the name of the neighborhood itself is derived from a government-subsidized office complex built here. AttractionsYou may want to visit this neighborhood if you're a fan of modern architecture. Many buildings (mostly office, some residential) are considered an architectural success story, especially in the way that the new architecture fits the older industrial setting. On the other hand, if modern architecture and older industrial buildings don't interest you all that much, there's practically nothing to see here - feel free to scratch the neighborhood off your itinerary. RestaurantsRestaurants are mostly clinging to the eastern part of the neighborhood (as to not be too far from Rue McGill and the tourists roaming the streets of Old Montreal). With that said, Cité Multimédia is certainly trying to develop its own, design-oriented dining scene. For proof, check out cosmopolitan Le Cartet, or artsy Cluny for breakfast or lunch. da Emma is in a category of its own - somewhat removed from pedestrian traffic, it clearly positions itself as a destination restaurant with its own loyal following (by the way, the building in which the restaurant is located used to be a women's prison). » Our list of selected Cité Multimédia Restaurants (4) Links
