While Montreal is probably not in the same league as
Paris or
New York, thanks to its unique history as well as its status as a major art center in North America, the city certainly has enough to keep an avid museum goer busy for at least a couple of days (possibly longer).
If you only want to visit one museum in the city, the most natural choice would be
the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, the city’s largest
and best-known art institution. Beyond
that, your choices are dictated by your tastes and preferences (history? architecture? modern
art?) as well as by the length of your visit.
