The following is the list of Parisian hotels categorized
as "four stars" by the French government. This is currently
(2008) the highest rating of a hotel, although many luxury
properties add a postfix "luxe" to specify that they exceed the
standards mandated by the four-star rating. The system is due
to be reformed in 2009 (it will be based on the more
typical five-star scale) and many of these hotels will
be recategorized as five stars.
The minimum requirements for the 4-star rating are:
- A minimum of 10 rooms
- A minimum size of 10 sq/m for single rooms
and 12 sq/m for double rooms
- Hotels with 2 or more storeys have to have an elevator (+ second elevator
or comparable device).
- Private bathroom in all rooms (minimum size 3 sq/m) and at least 50%
of them have to have both a bathtub and a shower.
- Private restroom in 90% of rooms
- 2 communal restrooms and two washbasins on one of the first two floors or in the basement
- Phone service in all rooms
- At least two foreign languages (English and at least one other) have to be spoken by the staff
- In-room breakfast service available
- Restaurant on premises
