ProfileClearly on the creepy side as far as Parisian attractions are
concerned, the Catacombs are old quarries that contain about six million skeletons
moved here between the end of the 18th and the middle of the 19th centuries from
overcrowded cemeteries.
Nevertheless, the Catacombs are very popular - they welcomed over 253,000 visitors
in 2007 (source: Mairie de Paris). Te Catacombs underwent 3-month long renovations in 2008
and reopened at the end of April, 2008.

The Catacombs span the entire city of
Paris. The tunnels and passageways spiral in an incredible distance of 186 miles! Yet, the legal tourist area spans only about a mile. For a very low entrance fee (2.5€ 26 and under, 5€ 27+) you can explore the sectioned off tunnels for as long as you want. Just bring a jacket, it's 11 degrees C in there year round...
